Humor: Why Santa has no family

Post by mickey »

Why doesn't Santa have kids?

He's got snow balls, someone shot his rudolf, and he only comes once a year and that's down the chimney..

Plenty other places to post that kind of "humor", can we keep this forum for what it was meant for? And a few words of introduction from a new member not universally known by other members might be considered as good practice.

Thank you for noticing me !

When yet a teenager I lived in Richmond on Thames '69-'72ish , and by that good fortune frequented L Auberge - spelling?. I actually really wanted to live in Twickenham but could not find a place there. Ok I admit it, I came from the south coast searching for fame and fortune as a poet / wise guy, but failed to find the poet's muse and settled for tall teas made by Andy.

Introduced to Eel Pie by my then best friend Carol ( known here as Carol G) I soon discovered Eel Pie rock and roll as well as the odd good bottle of plonk. Into vintage mortorcyles and music I never did manage to try anything else.

But I did meet lots of the characters found in these pages even though they probably don't remember me.

Seamus (RIP) would have probably recalled the dark haired idiot riding around town on a beaten up '50s sidecar bike. Lots of other folks around town did know me but they were not in the commune.

Mention of which, I used love the concerts and such and the people there. Very welcoming and warm.

I think I was somewhat gone from the area by the time the Grosvenor thing got going, but I must say that when I came back - Teddington - a while later, Grosvenor was up and running, but I never heard anything about it so did not see it. I am sure I would have loved the music.

But being a bit of a tramp I remained your average globe trotting fool, and since I have been in more climates that Tiger Woods, but not playing golf. Instead I try to make music on such things as penny whistles, banjos and the like.

I worked in Twickenham for quite some time so I was surely seen daily trudging to and from my job on the main drag there.

Lived in England/Wales/Ireland - before it got ruined with tourists and Euros - France, all over the Americas ... groan...

I am really old as well but most of my friends ignore my age as they are the most of them even older.

Hi to Carol G if you feel like swapping life stories hit me up.. my email is on this board someplace.. I suppose you'd have to join to do that?

More id stuff I was going to post my picture here but having been ripped off for a couple of gees on Facebook I am really nervous of sharing in public, but will share my pic over private emails.

Thank you for your patience and understanding

Thanks mickey, That's a really good introduction. Sorry to say I don't remember you but it seems to me like you would have fitted in very well in Grosvenor Rd., many of us were tramps there.

It seems like you've done a lot of travelling and I think you and Seamus would have still had a lot in common as he was a musical instrument freak and for a good few years he was a travelling bard. Later, he lived surrounded by old musical instruments, mostly string. Most of them in need of repair. The bedroom was stacked high with instruments and the living room was stacked with books, mostly music related and he was constantly inventing new ideas for his one-man-band contraption. One of the last things he did was a college course in the making and repair of musical instruments.

When I first got a motorbike I had to bolt a sidecar on. The first time I rode it, it was just a frame with no ballast to weigh it down. I had Seamus (as it happens) on the pillion seat of the bike and due to my inexperience, the first time I turned to the left, the side-car just lifted off the ground. It was on a bend at the top of the hill, just before Richmond Gate. Luckily, good reflexes helped to prevent a serious mishap.

I also lived in Ireland briefly, just before the tourist and EU influence. I think we are privileged to have seen it then. Also I lived in Wales, but for longer. I was glad to get away from there.

It's been a while. Well ok like 10 years.
The FB page does not exist, but there probably is another one.

Andy the Cafe dude was Cypriot. Lots of folks in London that I knew had some connection to there too. I guess from the recent demise of British control over the island?

Never heard the end of yall's commune in France, does it exist these days? :surfing:

Mickey, you mentioned Seamus -- in case you've not seen it, there's a short history of what he got up to after Grosvenor Road at http://www.eelpie.org/seamus.htm

and some home recordings he did at https://www.wussu.com/seamus/

and a copy of a weblog that was put up for a short time after he died where people left their memories of him, which you might find interesting - http://www.wussu.co.uk/grosvenor/wwwboa ... seamus.pdf (none of its internal links are still active)
